Liverpool goalie Alisson Becker uncertain to face Chelsea in Carabao Cup final with hamstring injury
Liverpool star Alisson Becker is set to miss the game with Brentford after suffering a recurrence of his hamstring problem in training on Friday afternoon, and he could be doubtful for the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea.
The Reds have been hampered with plenty of injuries after Trent Alexander Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai were ruled out of the Carabao Cup final. In the Brazilian’s absence, Caoimhin Kelleher will take his spot as Klopp’s second-choice goalkeeper, who is already set to play against Chelsea at Wembley.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have their own injury issue after another midfielder, Carney Chukwuemeka, suffered an ankle injury during training, and his availability remains uncertain.
The Blues’ injury issues date back to last season, when the club was blighted with injuries, and they haven’t stopped yet as the majority of the players are still recovering.
Alisson has been Liverpool’s most significant goalkeeper, but it was unlikely that Klopp was going to use him between the sticks, as he already confirmed he would deploy Kelleher against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final.
There are a tonne of things to observe from beyond the goalkeeper’s perspective, and we need to be prepared because the last time we played them, they crushed us and gave us the most humiliating loss of the season.
Meanwhile, we have Dorde Petrovic after the injury to Robert Sanchez. It’s yet to be seen if the Spanish goalkeeper will be fit against Liverpool. While Petrovic has fared reasonably, he will have to be at his best against a counter-attacking side.
Facing the Reds is always a tricky challenge, and this time we will have to be prepared for this massive test. If we can beat them, then Mauricio Pochettino winning the trophy in his first season as Blues manager will be a great indication of how we have turned the tide around.
