Chelsea’s 4-1 loss to Liverpool will come as a lesson for Mauricio Pochettino when they once again confront the Reds at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final.
The Pochettino team were insufficiently ready and committed numerous fundamental errors, but this loss will serve as a lesson for the West Londoners and hopefully, they will come as a different side when they face the Reds in Wembley.
Liverpool were an attacking juggernaut that continued to test our defence and we eventually gave in when Diego Jota’s goal for the Reds in the 23rd put the host ahead which launched their goal-filled game.
They continued their offensive intent, academy players Conor Bradley and Dominik Szoboszlai added two more goals before Christopher Nkunku injected some hope with his goal, but it was dashed by the host’s fourth goal after Luiz Daiz made it 4-1.
However, Pochettino will hope that his side will learn something from this defeat and go into the Carabao Cup final more prepared. When asked how the loss will help them in the final of the EFL Cup, the 51-year-old told BBC:
“Massive games allow us to learn a lot and approach the game in a different way. We need to be more aggressive and address them with the same energy. Today they were much better than us.”
When we play a team with good physicality, we always lose. The defeats against Manchester United and Newcastle United were clear evidence of how this young side cannot deal with a physical team, and they always bully us and win the matches.
To stay more in control of possession and defeat those physical teams, we must optimise our technical game if we are unprepared to handle a physical squad. We’ll be able to control the game and make it less chaotic by slowing it down.
Once we put these things into practice, we will be more prepared than ever and will give Liverpool an intense battle in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
