A View From The Bridge

“Don’t score too much goals”- Pochettino jokes about what he told in-form Chelsea star after Leeds United heroics

Mauricio Pochettino praises Chelsea star Conor Gallagher as the skipper continues to score regularly

Some fun and laughter should always be there in press conferences, as Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino joked about Conor Gallagher and his goal-scoring form this season.

The Argentine manager jokingly said that Gallagher doesn’t become a top scorer with a smile on his face. The England international’s game has improved immensely this season under Pochettino. He has four goals and six assists in all competitions and there should still be more to come.

And since the start of the new season, Gallagher has been in every starting lineup and has appeared in 35 games across all competitions. Even off the bench, he continues to be a difference maker in Blue.

But lately, in addition to delivering excellent performances, he has also begun scoring goals. The midfielder has netted crucial goals, including one against Leeds United in the FA Cup fifth round, where he scored in the 90th minute to propel Chelsea into the quarterfinals. Pochettino praised the midfielder’s performance, (h/t Football.London) and said:

“I said, okay, don’t become a top scorer; don’t score too many goals [smiles]. But the effort is there, and the quality is there.”

Gallagher was heavily linked with a summer exit with Tottenham Hotspur among those interested. However a deal failed to materialise, much to our advantage. Not only is the Englishman a key player but also gets what it takes to don the Chelsea jersey. This is something we cannot buy nor replace.

Gallagher has 10 G/A this season in all competitions.

His energy and determination to regain possession when we’re without the ball introduce a new dynamic in midfield, making us look proactive. Moreover, he seems to be improving in his technical abilities, demonstrating prowess in scoring and assisting goals.

Gallagher is just 23, and once he improves certain facets of his game, we will have a complete midfielder who could etch his name among the greats at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea should make it a priority to extend his deal in the coming summer and it is imperative that we keep hold of him for years to come.
