Mauricio Pochettino calls Carabao Cup final opponents ‘the second-best team in the world’

Mauricio Pochettino feels Chelsea can beat Liverpool in Carabao Cup final

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has sent a message to his side ahead of the Carabao Cup final game against Liverpool following a 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad.

The Argentine manager has made an audacious claim and said it’s possible to beat Liverpool in the final at Wembley. Chelsea and the Reds will meet in the Carabao Cup final on February 25th.

The Argentine manager’s side showed fight and grit against Manchester City, who have been undefeated at home since November 2022. Chelsea’s early lead in the game came when Raheem Sterling curled the ball past Ederson before halftime.

City kept testing the Blues but failed to find the answers and continued mounting pressure on them. They eventually got their goal in the 83rd minute, when Rodri hit the ball past Dorde Petrovic.

But Pochettino was happy with the draw and appreciated the players’ fight, and he has now challenged the players to beat Liverpool on the 25th. Speaking to the media, he further said, quoted by Fabrizio Romano:

“I’m so happy; I like how we fight. We need to feel that it’s possible to beat Liverpool in the Cup final. We are going to play the second-best team in the world. I think belief is the most important thing.”.

Anything is possible.

Mauricio Pochettino hopefully of Chelsea beating Liverpool in Carabao Cup final.

We put up a strong battle against a team that has monopolised the Premier League after winning it three times in a row. Since we are a young team and our performance suffers from inexperience, it wasn’t anticipated of us to give such an emphatic performance.

However, a draw would elevate our self-assurance going into the championship match against a team that is leading the Premier League and has been dominating. We’re aiming to defeat the Reds, but it will depend on how we play and how the Pochettino strategy can neutralise them.
