Mauricio Pochettino and Todd Boehly share uncomfortable moment after Chelsea fall to Liverpool
Chelsea had their first opportunity for silverware when they faced Liverpool at Wembley stadium earlier today. It was a game of missed chances opportunities for both clubs until Virgil van Dijk scored an extra-time winner as Liverpool won their record-extending 10th Carabao Cup.
Chelsea were labelled as the ‘billion pound bottlejobs’ by Gary Neville. He aimed at the transfer sum of over a billion pounds that Todd Boehly has spent following him taking over as the owner of Stamford Bridge. Two managers changed, over a billion pounds spent, acquiring a a mega number of players, and Chelsea look worse than they were at the start.
Let’s face the reality
Chelsea are a younger team and more raw than the finished product that Jurgen Klopp has at his disposal at Liverpool. It would be a difficult comparison if both the squads are compared based on merit. One is at the start of its project while the other is at the conclusion of theirs.
On the positive side, Chelsea took Liverpool deep into extra time. Liverpool had to work hard to get the win. There are lots of positives to take from the last two weeks. Mauricio Pochettino has got his team playing attractive football with lots of intensity, it’s time he puts some structure to it.
Leaving Todd hanging
Mauricio Pochettino after collecting his runners-up medal appeared to ignore Todd Boehly when walking off the stairway. In the video uploaded online on X, it would appear that the gaffer opts to ignore the club honcho. Whether all is right at the Bridge remains to be seen.
Managers have had problems with boundaries that Todd crosses. He had problems with Thomas Tuchel because he wanted to speak in the dressing room while Todd also brought his friends to the dressing rooms.
