A View From The Bridge

Liverpool star admits he did not interfere with Moises Caicedo’s ‘personal decision’ to join Chelsea

Alexis Mac Allister jokes he was hurt by Moises Caicedo decision to join Chelsea

The Alexis Mac Allister and Chelsea star Moises Caicedo partnership at Brighton & Hove Albion in the middle of the pitch transformed the club into a top side. They both played a key role in helping the Seagulls reach the Europa League last season.

Both midfielders became famous players in the league, and as their prominence grew, clubs started showing interest in them. While Caicedo was pursued by Chelsea and Arsenal, Mac Allister was spontaneously signed by Liverpool.

After signing the 2022 World Cup winner, the Reds then joined Chelsea in the race for Caicedo, which saw the Blues shell out £115 million to land the Ecuadorian midfielder, who had already made his decision when the Reds came for the midfielder.

Caicedo rejected an offer to join Liverpool and opted to sign for Chelsea. Since both former Brighton players exited, Mac Allister, who will meet his ex-teammate in the Carabao Cup final, says he didn’t try to intervene when Caicedo decided to join Chelsea, (h/t Liverpool Echo), and said:

“It is a personal decision, and I would never be in the middle; that is what he chose, and that is completely fine. He is an amazing player and a really good guy, so I wish him all the best every day of his life—but not on Sunday.’’

Caicedo already had his decision made

The two most appreciated midfielders for Brighton were Caicedo and Mac Allister. Together, they created an intimidating midfield partnership that helped the Seagulls become one of the league’s most competitive teams. However, since their departure, Roberto De Zerbi’s team has underperformed and has missed having them on the tram.

We were behind Caicedo for a long time, and when Liverpool decided to outbid us, it created panic. But the good thing is that he remained adamant about his choice and signed for us. Mac Allister certainly could have played a part in convincing his former colleague to join Liverpool.

But he respected his former teammate’s decision, and Caicedo joined us. Now both former teammates will meet in the final of the Carabao Cup on Sunday, and it will be interesting to see who will get better against each other.
