This summer, Chelsea are set to perform another overhaul of their squad, as the Blues will look to make a pure profit and try to avoid breaching the Premier League Financial Fair Play rules.
According to the Telegraph, (h/t The Sun), the West Londoners are set to flog off seven players in order to raise around £100 million in sales. The West Londoners have been one of the most active clubs in the marlet since the arrival of Todd Boehly and have spent about £1bn on transfers.
However, it is not all plain sailing as a bloated squad has struggled to leave an impact. It is thus imperative that the club move some of these underperformers on and among seven players under consideration will be Kepa Arrizabalaga, who is on loan to Real Madrid and is likely to return to the club after the end of the summer.
The Spanish goalkeeper hasn’t enjoyed a productive spell at Real and has now become the second-choice goalkeeper behind Andriy Lunin. So it will be doubtful that he will remain in the Spanish capital once Thibaut Courtois returns.
The Blues have Dorde Petrovic and Robert Sanchez, and Petrovic has currently occupied the No. 1 position. The Serbian goalkeeper has become a competition for Sanchez, and if Kepa returns, then it will be really challenging for him to retain the first spot.
The Blues will either look to offload him, as they already have two better goalkeepers who have been an upgrade on the former Athletic Bilbao custodian. Our ball-playing and stopping abilities have made massive improvements since the signing of Sanchez and Petrovic. And both will now compete for the first spot and if Kepa returns, he might become the third-choice goalkeeper.
Therefore, it would be wise to sell him and benefit from his departure. He has struggled to live up to the fee we paid for him, making him the most expensive custodian. It would be a fair profit for us if we receive half of that amount.
Meanwhile, there are other stars who will also part ways with the Blues as Chelsea once again restructure their roster ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
