Juventus unable to fulfil contract promise made to Chelsea target Dusan Vlahovic

Juventus cannot meet Vlahovic’s salary expectations, opening up chances for Chelsea

Juventus are unable to meet the ‘promised’ salary raise of Dusan Vlahovic, according to Football London. The Serbian signed with Old Lady in January 2022. The Italian giants apparently inserted a clause that would have seen an increase, the following season.

However, Bianconeri are forced to try and renew his contract on reduced salary as they cannot afford his pay increase, reports Italian media TuttoMercatoWeb. The clause would have seen his salary raise from €8m to €12m net per season from July 2024.

Juventus’ finances have taken a hit following the £17m fine enforced due to the Financial Fair Play Rules breach. This has added pressure to their situation. Another Italian media, Tutto Juve, says Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are interested in signing the 24-year-old.

Vlahovic is putting up quite a show this season for his club. He has 12 goals and two assists from 21 games, marking his remarkable form.

Chelsea’s dire need for a centre-forward

Stamford Bridge needs a striker and they need it immediately. The club has been relying on Raheem Sterling, Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson high up the pitch. However, the trio are unable to deliver as much as expected from them.

This has urged Mauricio Pochettino to look for better options, especially for the ‘number 9’ role. The Argentine also has eyes on Brentford’s Ivan Toney. The Bees striker should be quite an expensive buy. Also, the English forward is looking for a ‘big club’.

It is highly unlikely that Toney would risk a trip to West London at the peak of his form. This leaves Chelsea with Dusan Vlahovic as their best option. Chelsea were silent during the January transfer window.

This should urge them to pounce stronger during the summer. The club has been enduring a ‘season to forget’, with the EFL final as their only hope to salvage their season. What happens in the next few months should shape the club’s near future.
