Jamie Carragher says one Chelsea star’s career at the top is over at the end of the season

Jamie Carragher asserts Thiago Silva’s time at Chelsea may be numbered after draw with Manchester City

Former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher feels Thiago Silva’s time at Chelsea is maybe over after Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill displayed a sensational performance in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

Silva was ruled out of the game against City after suffering an injury in Monday night’s game against Crystal Palace, and though he was unavailable for the trip to City, he could well be fit in time for the Carabao Cup final.

It will be doubtful if Silva will return to the starting lineup against the Reds in the final after the impressive partnership of Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill. Their rock-solid partnership at the back nullified City’s attack and allowed them only a few chances.

The game ended in a draw, but Chelsea’s new partnership at the back has given the fans new hope for their future partnership at the back, and now Carragher feels Silva’s time may now be numbered, (h/r Mirror), and told:

‘‘He’s been brilliant for Chelsea since he’s come in. But I think with his age, his contract’s up at the end of the season, and when you see those two players [Disasi and Colwill] in together. I think it makes it very difficult for Thiago Silva to come back into the team between now and the end of the season, unless someone gets injured.”

It’s time for our youngsters to step up.

Thiago Silva is doubtful to play against Liverpool in Carabao Cup final.

As long as Silva remains our first choice at centre-back, his days are not limited. But since we have so many young players at our disposal, we must give them an opportunity and see how they perform. Colwill and Disasi had the opportunity to demonstrate their endurance against a team that was always on the offensive, but they held their ground and limited their assault.

Silva is still ahead of every defender in the pecking order, so perhaps we have a new centre-back combination. Pochettino might also want more youthful players at the back who can play swiftly and with quickness when they have the ball. Who the defensive duo plays with against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final will be interesting to watch.
