A View From The Bridge

Ian Wright names the in-form Chelsea star he wishes Arsenal signed last summer

Ian Wright claims he would’ve loved Chelsea forward Cole Palmer at Arsenal

Former Arsenal legend Ian Wright says he would have loved Chelsea forward Cole Palmer at the North London club. Palmer left Manchester City in search of more game time and joined the West Londoners last summer.

Since joining us, the forward has been on par with other elite stars of the Premier League, with 10 goals and six assists in the Premier League this campaign. Palmer’s signing has been a revelation for the player himself, who was able to demonstrate his talent.

At City, he barely received enough minutes on the pitch due to the competition, and leaving the club was the only option for the forward.

But Wright feels Palmer should have joined Chelsea arch-rivals Arsenal, and he would’ve loved it. Speaking on his podcast, The Wrighty’s House Podcast, he said:

“I wish we (Arsenal)—I don’t want to say who I’d have had him in for—but I’d have loved to have had Cole Palmer. I heard someone saying something like, He’s like Mahrez, but he’s not that player; he has so much more.”

Cole Palmer has 16 G/A this season for Chelsea.

Palmer is a complete player; he can score, he can create chances, and he is slowly becoming a big-game player. At 21, he already showed enough maturity on the pitch, and he will only get better with time. Right now, we cannot compare him to Riyad Mahrez because the Algerian was sensational, and during his young days, he led Leicester City to the Premier League.

Everyone would obviously want him at their club after seeing his Chelsea performance, but he would have to contend with Bukayo Saka at Arsenal. It was the right choice for him to come to Chelsea as there is no competition and he can grow here without any challenges. Palmer possesses the traits needed to rank among Europe’s top forwards and with time he become one.
