Chelsea and Liverpool will have chance to pocket £100,000 if they EFL Cup
Chelsea and Liverpool are set for one of the major showdowns in Wembley, as both sides will fight for the first silverware of the season as it’s the final of the Carabao Cup.
This is the third time both sides will face each other in domestic competition; their last encounters have been decided on penalties, with Liverpool prevailing on both.
The Reds will be hoping to win the competition to give Jurgen Klopp a better send-off after the German manager announced he would leave the Reds after the end of the season.
For Chelsea, it’s a different scenario under Mauricio Pochettino, who managed to steer the club to the final of the competition in his first campaign as the Blues’ manager, and winning a trophy will kick-start a new era under him.
As per Express, Winning a final will also see either club pocket a massive sum of money. Both clubs have been guaranteed £50,000 by making it to the final already, with an extra £50,000 on offer to the winner, which means the winner will earn £100,000 in prize money.
Winning the Carabao Cup is the ultimate prize.
Although winning the title will signal the beginning of a new chapter under Pochettino, money will arrive eventually. We aren’t primarily bothered with the prize money because the trophy is on the line. We haven’t won this game in a very long time, so it will be important for us. We lost the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup against Liverpool and Leicester, respectively.
The odds are against us, and it’s time to defy them. Liverpool are favourites in this competition, and taking the trophy home will be a massive achievement for this young squad, which has suffered the most since the arrival of a new owner.
