Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea immediately turned down Bayern Munich loan move for Mykhaylo Mudryk
Fabrizio Romano gave an insight into Bayern Munich’s approach to Mykhaylo Mudryk on loan from Chelsea in January, but the Blues gave an instant no as they wanted to keep the 23-year-old.
Despite enduring a bumpy season at Chelsea, the Blues are happy to keep the forward and believe he will hit his stride under Mauricio Pochettino. The former Shakhtar Donetsk forward has four goals this season.
However, Mudryk’s patchy performance has been a major hindrance to his quick growth under the Argentine boss, who has started using him off the bench. Unless he is able to find his rhythm, it appears unlikely to change.
Mudryk still has some things to work on if he wants to be a step above the other players in the lineup, so it looks like it is going to require him a few more seasons to mature into a fully-fledged forward.
And maybe a loan move to Bayern could have helped, but Blues feels remaining at Stamford Bridge will be better, which is why they rejected Bayern’s approach, as revealed by Romano in his exclusive Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside:
“It’s true that Bayern made a phone call to Chelsea to ask about Mykhailo Mudryk’s availability, but they were given an immediate ‘no’ from the Blues because they wanted to keep him.”
A loan move couldn’t have hurt.
Given that his performance hasn’t been convincing and he has suffered a drastic dip in form in the second half of the campaign. He showed signs of improvement and it was understood that he was finally developing, but now it seems he has once again suffered a slump in form, it’s reasonable because he is young and raw, and young players aren’t consistent with their performance as it fluctuates.
Perhaps a loan to Bayern would have made sense; we can see Ian Maatsen thriving there, and the Bundesliga is a less intense league than the Premier League, so he would have had adequate playing time there.
