Conor Gallagher was content with the way the lads fought with Manchester City in a 1-1 draw at Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening. However, the midfielder was convinced Cheslea could have won the game had they not missed some excellent chances.
A goal from Raheem Sterling for the Blues saw the West Londoners break the deadlock before half-time. Chelsea’s imposing defence avoided any dangers and restricted City players from getting a look at the ball inside the box.
However, the hosts eventually broke through the Blues defence when a shot from Rodri beat Dorde Petrovic after deflecting off Trevoh Chalobah
But Gallagher later commented that his side were a bit tired after playing two games in a week. And after the final whistle, the midfielder spoke to BBC and said:
“Really hard. I feel that the lads were brilliant, and defensively, we were very focused. We were very tired, but we saw it through, and we are happy with the performance.”
Gallagher’s comments make sense because we can’t always use the same players as they will grow weary and sluggish and run the danger of being hurt. However, the Argentine manager is stuck with the same group of players due to injuries to other players.
Cesare Casadei made his much-awaited debut against City after he was recalled by the Blues during his loan spell at Leicester City. However, he was introduced during the closing stages of the game, so he didn’t have much impact.
For our next game against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, we have enough days for the players to recover from the recent match and fully prepare themselves for the encounter. We gave City the toughest battle and should aim to do so with the Reds in Wembley.
