Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling’s goal couldn’t come at a better time and against an opponent he has played for many years. The Manchester City star gave the Blues the lead before halftime when he received a pass from Nicolas Jackson and cut inside Kyle Walker before curling the ball past Ederson.
The Blues started the game on the front foot with plenty of chances, though their lack of clinical edge saw them settle for a draw. Jackson had a glorious shot at giving the Blues the lead but squandered his chances.
Chelsea and City both had plenty of great opportunities, but City proved to be reckless in front of goal. However, City began exerting increasing amounts of pressure on the Blues with numerous crosses in the box.
Finally, Rodri was able to strike home, which took a touch off Chelsea substitute Trevoh Chalobah on its way into the net. Sterling, who scored his sixth goal of the season, described it to the media and told the BBC:
“I could feel [Kyle Walker] coming in fast, and I managed to turn quickly and, thankfully, get the goal.”
It was a calm finish by Sterling, who controlled the ball in City’s box, and when Walker tried to dispossess him, he calmly got past the former Tottenham Hotspur right-back before curling the ball home. The goal came at a great time, and the forward rightfully celebrated his goal.
This goal will hopefully give the England international much-needed confidence after his poor showings against Wolves and Liverpool. Now that our next game is against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, hopefully, the 28-year-old will step up because we will need more experienced players on the field in their championship game.
This draw against a side who haven’t lost at Etihad since 2022 will give this young side some confidence to face the rampant Liverpool, who won 4-1 against Brentford, and the EFL final match is certainly going to be entertaining.
