A View From The Bridge

Chelsea told how much it will cost to sign Barcelona’s star midfielder

Chelsea learn Frenkie de Jong price tag amid interest from Manchester United

Chelsea are eager to add more steal to their midfielder and have expressed their interest in signing Barcelona star Frenkie De Jong after the Spanish club put the midfielder on the market.

According to Mundo Deportivo, (h/t Daily Mail) Barcelona are hoping to pocket the massive profit from the Dutchman sale and have placed a £85 million (€100 million) price tag on the former Ajax midfielder.

Besides Chelsea, Manchester United are also keen to sign the midfielder. The Red Devils came close to sealing a deal in 2022 to land the Dutchman, but De Jong’s reluctance to leave the Spanish club saw the move never happen.

However, De Jong is now said to be open to leaving Barcelona and the Blues have instantly sounded their interest. And now a potential bidding war could occur in the summer transfer window for the midfielder.

Moreover, De Jong recently confirmed he is happy at Barcelona, but a potential move away from the club hasn’t been ruled out, and it remains to be seen which club will meet his asking price.

De Jong’s versatility adds a great steal to midfield.

We would be very fortunate to sign De Jong. He is a gifted and seasoned midfield player who adapts quickly to any level. At 26, he will bring an immense amount of quality to the team. He can play both centre-back and midfield, as we witnessed at Barcelona, so this will be an outstanding addition.

However, his price is undoubtedly high, and Chelsea will need to determine if they can afford it given that we must abide by our own Financial Fair Play regulation. Nevertheless, De Jong’s arrival will undoubtedly be fantastic. He can immediately have an influence and stabilise our unreliable midfield.

Right now, we have too many young midfielders, such as Carney Chukwuemeka, Romeo Lavia, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Lesley Ugochukwu, and now Cesare Casadei has been called back. So if we are to make his signing, we first need to make room in our midfield.
