Thiago Silva names John Terry as the player he would like to play alongside at Chelsea
When asked about which Chelsea legend Thiago Silva would like to play alongside at the club, the Brazilian centre-back named John Terry. An iconic player who established his name and retired as a club legend.
Terry, who etched his name in the history books of Chelsea, emerged from Chelsea’s famous academy, Cobham. The defender made his name, and his performance earned him a captain’s armband at the age of 21.
Terry started his Chelsea career in 1998 and played for the club until 2017, which saw him become a household name at the club. He later joined Swansea City, then Aston Villa, before calling for retirement.
During his time at Chelsea, the famous centre-back won five Premier League titles and a Champions League. His presence at the back and his performance under Jose Mourinho saw the club concede only 15 goals in a season—a record that could never be broken.
It’s no brainer that every defender would like to play alongside Terry, and Silva, who joined the club in 2020, expressed his admiration for him and told the Premier League YouTube channel:
“I’ll go with John Terry since I am at Chelsea; we have a great relationship. There is always a good vibe every time I see him, and he’s a legend for the club and English football.”
If Terry and Silva had been teammates at Chelsea, how would things have turned out? We would have hardly let in any goals and had one of the most potent centre-back combinations in the Premier League. If Silva had signed on in 2015 or 2016, he would have had the opportunity to play alongside Terry.
Chelsea’s centre-backs have traditionally been among the best in the league. Ron Harris, Gary Cahill, Branislav Ivanovic, and Ricardo Carvalho are some of the names. Numerous talented defenders that we have created have contributed to our success. Silva will undoubtedly be listed among these elite defenders as well; in his early season at Chelsea, the Brazilian took home the Champions League.
