Mauricio Pochettino ready to ‘sacrifice’ five Chelsea players to comply with FFP rules

Chelsea could offload Conor Gallagher next summer to comply with FFP rules

FFP is the boogeyman in Todd Boehly’s closet and Chelsea could very well find themselves in it’s sights. It was a strange January transfer window for Chelsea after the club failed to sign any players. The club has been known for spending extravagant money under Todd Boehly but didn’t spend a penny in the winter window.

This is because the club is currently hampered by their Financial Fair Play limit, and if they spend more without making any profit, then they risk breaking the Premier League FFP.

Under American business, the Blues have splurged £1 billion since taking over ahead of the 2022–23 campaign. His ambition has revolved around signing young players and building the project around them.

But now the Blues first have to earn revenue if they hope to spend massively in the next summer window. As per The Athletic (h/t Express), the Blues are set to offload homegrown players such as Conor Gallagher, Ian Maatsen, Armando Broja and Trevoh Chalobah to balance their books.

It is also understood that the Blues will release Thiago Silva next summer, whose contract will end in the following season. Broja and Maatsen have already been sent on loan to Fulham and Borussia Dortmund, respectively.

The Blues will look to sell Gallagher and Chalobah next summer. The England midfielder has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, and a deal could be struck between the two London clubs. While it is not an ideal scenario, there is little we can do otherwise.

The Blues must dispose of their players in order to clear space and turn a profit the next summer in order to make way for new arrivals. The team used a similar strategy last summer when they sold about half of their roster in order to generate some cash before making some significant purchases.

We have to follow the FFP or face penalties that will negatively impact the club. As we witnessed with Everton, they were given penalties for point deduction twice. Therefore, we will need to prevent this in any case, and our primary objective should be to make income next summer.
