A View From The Bridge

Chelsea could lose star midfielder this summer with London rivals prepare for fresh approach

Chelsea are hoping to renew the Conor Gallager contract which expires in 2025

Chelsea are once again in danger of losing Conor Gallagher in the summer window, as Tottenham Hotspur are set to make a renewed offer to the Blues for the England international.

According to the Telegraph, (h/t Metro), the Blues will certainly lose the 23-year-old in the upcoming window to Spurs, who will push for his signing. The England international is yet to extend his contract, with his current deal expiring in 2025.

There have been no talks regarding his contract renewal, and reaching an amicable agreement is far from certain. The Blues are open to selling the midfielder as they look to earn a pure profit. But then, they might be left with no other choice if negotiations get nowhere.

North Londoners’ manager Ange Postecoglou is a great admirer of Gallagher and feels he will blend into his system with ease. But Chelsea are reluctant to sell him to their direct rivals, and the upcoming summer window will be huge for Gallagher’s future.

The England international has seemed to have picked up his form at the right time after scoring against Aston Villa and then scoring a brace in a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace. This can also help the Blues slap a big price tag on him if he continues to deliver the same performance.

Chelsea should extend Gallagher’s contract.

Gallagher’s redemption this season has been marvellous, and Chelsea shouldn’t be thinking twice before extending his contract. His performance speaks for itself, and if he continues to play this way, we have a real talent on our hands. He is a proper Chelsea and does not need to be taught on what it means to play for the club. .

We will look back and realise that selling to Spurs is a double whammy. We will not just lose a talented player but also strengthen a direct rival. Gallagher will undoubtedly help that squad perform better, and who knows, maybe they will be title contenders next season.

Chelsea will thus need to make a diffiult choice, and considering our Financial Fair Play policy, we will need to evaluate it carefully since we could have to sell him in order to turn a profit; if we don’t, we could be privy to sanctions.
