A View From The Bridge

Chelsea could copy Enzo Fernandez transfer tactic to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli, says journo

Ben Jacobs reveals Chelsea unlikely to meet Victor Osimhen release clause

Transfer expert Ben Jacobs shed some light on how Chelsea will approach Napoli for the Victor Osimhen signing. The Nigerian forward has extended his deal with the Serie A club, who have inserted a release clause in his contract.

The Blues have been regarded as a likely destination for the 24-year-old striker next summer, who has openly admitted he dreams of playing in the Premier League soon.

However, Jacobs says the West Londoners are unlikely to trigger the Osimhen clause and instead use the same tactics they did when they landed Enzo Fernandez from Benfica last January.

The West Londoners will be ready to compete for his signing, but a new update by Jacobs explains how Mauricio Pochettino will sign Osimhen, he told GiveMeSport:

“No, I don’t think that anyone will necessarily trigger Victor Osimhen’s release clause; that’s not Chelsea’s approach. The release clause is there to set market value, but I would imagine that Chelsea will want the ability to structure a deal slightly differently from the release clause. Either to get better payment terms or a slightly different structure.’’

“It’s obviously what they did with Enzo Fernandez; they were informed by the release clause, but they bid a million more than it in order to get a slightly different structure. I think that’s what Chelsea would be looking at with Victor Osimhen. But obviously, the release clause number is going to inform the sum evaluation, and Chelsea will be there.”

Fernandez was signed in haste.

We signed Fernadez during the January deadline; it was a spontaneous move. For Osimhen, we will have time and enough months to negotiate his acquisition. However, we met the Fernandez release clause, and we had to, given that we were desperate for a midfielder after we sold Jorginho to Arsenal and needed his replacement quickly.

Chelsea to use midfielder Enzo Fernandez transfer tactics to sign Victor Osimhen.

However, this time we’ll have more time, and maybe we can work out a modest price reduction as he is undoubtedly worth a lot of money. For a few seasons, he was our top target and it will be interesting to see how things unfold.

Osimhen has expressed his opinions on joining the Premier League rather clearly, so we have some advantage when it comes to his signing. We’ll have to wait and see how things work out before we approach Napoli for his signing.
