Cesc Fabregas says Chelsea star Moises Caicedo was one of the best youngsters in the world at Brighton
Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas’s insights shed light on Moises Caicedo and his journey from Brighton to Chelsea and the challenges he has faced adapting to life at Stamford Bridge. Despite Caicedo’s promising performances at Brighton, his transition to Chelsea has seen itself met with mixed results, leading to questions about Mauricio Pochettino’s management and the team’s overall performance.
Fabregas acknowledges Caicedo’s talent and impact at Brighton, labelling him as one of the best young players in the world during his time at the club. However, the midfielder’s adaptation to Chelsea has not been seamless, with inconsistencies in his performances. This disparity in form has led to speculation about the differences between the player seen at Brighton and the one currently at Chelsea.
The former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder suggests that Caicedo and his struggles at Chelsea may remain attributed to various factors, including the tactical approach employed by Pochettino and the team’s formation. Despite the abundance of quality within the squad, Pochettino has yet to identify the optimal lineup and system that maximizes the players’ abilities.
Here is what Fabregas had to say about the same live on BBC:
“I do think Mauricio is a really good coach but, yeah, it still feels like they haven’t found their eleven, they still haven’t found their best formation, or the one that suits best the players they’ve got at the moment. Let’s not get away from the point that there’s a lot of quality.
“Yes, there’s physicality, yes, they went for speed, they went for strength but they do have a lot of quality in midfield. [Moises] Caicedo was a top player for Brighton, he was one of the best young players at the World Cup, [Enzo] Fernandez.”
Oh, Moises!
Furthermore, Fabregas emphasises the importance of finding the right balance between physicality and technical quality in midfield. While Chelsea prioritized attributes such as speed and strength in their recruitment strategy, Fabregas believes that there is still ample quality within the midfield ranks, including players like Caicedo.
However, the lack of cohesion and consistency in Chelsea’s performances suggests that there is room for improvement in terms of tactical organization and player integration. Pochettino faces the challenge of harnessing the team’s potential and implementing a cohesive playing style that showcases their collective abilities.
Despite the setbacks, Fabregas remains optimistic about Chelsea’s prospects, highlighting the talent and potential within the squad. With the right guidance and tactical adjustments, Cesc also believes that Chelsea can overcome their current challenges and establish themselves as a formidable force in the Premier League.
While Caicedo has shown glimpses of his quality, his adaptation process remains a work in progress, requiring patience and support from both the coaching staff and the fans. The price tag of 115m Great British Pounds carries too much weight for a player like Moises and he cannot live up to such crazy numbers quickly.
