A View From The Bridge

Can League Cup success reignite Pochettino’s Chelsea reign 20 Years after Mourinho’s triumph?

Winning the League Cup in 2004/05 laid the foundations for Jose Mourinho’s era of success. 20 years later, can it help Mauricio Pochettino salvage his Chelsea career?

This is the start of a new era at Chelsea and the pressure on Mauricio Pochettino is massive. He has received lots of criticism since he took over the job at Chelsea.

The Argentine manager is overlooking a massive rebuild at Stamford Bridge. Under him, Chelsea have changed their transfer model and are building something that has the potential to make Chelsea the most valuable and attractive club in Europe.

The Jose Mourinho Era

Jose Mourinho is a Chelsea legend, he changed the face of the club.

As they say, history repeats itself and the cycle of evolution continues. Chelsea were in a similar situation in 2004/05 when Roman Abramovich was changing the course of football with expensive transfers and stacking unbelievable talent under Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho was under pressure to win something. Especially considering the huge transfer money that Chelsea spent then.

Came Carabao Cup 2004/05 finals, coincidentally against Liverpool. Chelsea emerged victorious by a 3-2 score line. Jose Mourinho went on to win three Premier League titles with Chelsea, three League cups, a Community Shield, and an FA Cup. He not only changed the face of Chelsea Football Club but his transfer antics changed football forever.

Job at hand

Mauricio Pochettino has an opportunity to win his first trophy with Chelsea tomorrow.

Chelsea have spent more than a billion dollars since Todd Boehly took over the ownership of the club. His way of transfer dealing has been subject to a lot of criticism in the media just like a couple of decades back with Roman Abramovich.
