A View From The Bridge

Ben Jacobs dispels Enzo Fernandez ‘fake news’ but says it put ‘fire in the belly’ of the Chelsea star

Ben Jacobs makes ‘fire in the belly’ claim surrounding Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez

Popular journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Enzo Fernandez ‘loves’ the Chelsea project and fake news regarding his future only seems to have put ‘fire in the belly’ of the Argentine World Cup winner, as revealed on Give Me Sport.

Over the last week, there have been several noises surrounding the future of the talented Enzo at Chelsea. The Blues have had a torrid season so far and the fans are not happy with the form that the former Benfica man has shown so far.

Enzo shut his critics down in some style in the midweek FA Cup clash against Aston Villa. In what was arguably Chelsea’s best performance of the season, Enzo came up with a peach of a free-kick that ensured that the knives were off Pochettino’s back for the time being.

Enzo is not the only one who has copped a lot of criticism this season. His midfield partner-in-crime Moises Caicedo has had a very tough inititiation to life in West London. In fact, his performances have been even more worrying than the Argentine midfielder’s.

Speaking about the situation, Ben Jacobs quashed theories about Enzo’s exit and revealed that the unwanted criticism has only made him more keen on succeeding in a Chelsea shirt

“Usually we speak about rumours and fake news as being unsettling, and I think it definitely irked the Enzo Fernandez camp because it is so untrue. But I think it also put a bit of fire in the belly. I definitely think it contributed to prompting that exuberant celebration, so Enzo Fernandez, his camp and Chelsea might just have the last laugh based upon that fake news. It has been used to prove a point.”

Enzo seems like the kind of character who would thrive under pressure. The ruffling of feathers has caused the talented midfielder to go out and prove a point and if he continues in a similar vein, it only bodes well for the Chelsea team.

Enzo Fernandez stepped up in some fashion against Aston Villa

However, one player is not going to make a drastic change to the team. Every single player needs to step up and show their quality in the coming months. When fully functional, they can beat any team on any given day.

If Chelsea have any hopes of reviving their season and making a push for the top six, they would need the likes of Enzo and Caicedo to rediscover their best form. Right now, it feels like Cole Palmer is the only player in the team who is consistently good in his performances.

This ‘fire in the belly’ bodes well for Chelsea. Let’s hope we can put in a run of consistent results and hopefully ease some of the immense pressure that we are under.
