Liverpool star Andy Robertson wasn’t happy with Chelsea ace Moises Caicedo for his tackle on Ryan Gravenberch, which led to the Dutchman going off on a stretcher. On the other hand, Chelsea once again suffered another domestic cup loss to Liverpool at Wembley.
The Dutch midfielder suffered a poor tackle from Moises Caicedo and was seen going on a stretcher, which added another worry to the Jurgen Klopp injury list. And the Reds left-back wasn’t at all content with the former Brighton & Hove Albion tackle on his teammate.
After the game, Robertson wasn’t fully happy about what transpired and spoke to the media, making his frustration felt. Speaking to the press, he slammed Caicedo’s tackle and told Sky Sports (h/t Daily Mail).
‘’Ryan’s injury is a really bad tackle. You can’t paint it any other way. It’s a really bad tackle on his ankle, and you’ve just got to hope it’s not as bad as the pain he was feeling on the pitch.’’
Caicedo has to hone his tackle since he occasionally tackles a player with all of his might, which may be dangerous because he could break the opponent’s ankle or damage anything else with his careless tackles.
While passion is great, we rather the players play fair and earn the victory on the field. Even as Chelsea supporters, it is rather surprising that the Ecuadorian ended the game without a booking to his name.
While it’s true that we’ve seen him frequently engage in tackling, it’s evident that his technique in this aspect of the game requires refinement. As a defensive midfielder, knowing when and how to execute a tackle is crucial. Timing is paramount in winning back possession effectively.
Indeed, his performance in the match was commendable, marked by his ability to recover the ball frequently. However, given his significant price tag, any shortcomings or disciplinary issues will naturally attract heightened scrutiny. It’s fortunate for him that he wasn’t shown a direct red card for his tackles, but it’s an area he needs to be mindful of to avoid such situations in the future.
