A View From The Bridge

Andy Cole tells Manchester United to rival Chelsea for England international

Andy Cole urges Ivan Toney to join Manchester United instead of Chelsea

Ivan Toney’s long-term future doesn’t seem to lie at Brentford, and the forward will look to try his hands out at another club once the 2024 summer transfer window arrives. Given the Bees’ poor form this season, one cannot rule them out of being sucked into the relegation dogfight.

The striker, who was banned for eight months after being found guilty of breaching Premier League betting rules, has been attracting interest from several English clubs. Chelsea and Arsenal seem to be heavily interested in signing him.

And now former Manchester United legend Andy Cole feels the forward perfectly aligns with the current Red Devils’ team and will flourish there. He also feels the experienced forward will provide competition to Rasmus Hojlund, further aiding his development

In his latest interview with The Winners Enclosure (h/t Sun), the former Premier League star made his thoughts known and urged the forward to choose United, he further said:

“I like Ivan, and if he came to Manchester United, would he do a job? Absolutely, he would. Rasmus Hojlund is still a young man, so it’s all down to whether the club is prepared to bring in an older striker that can help him out at this stage.’’

An established striker like Toney is already familiar with the league and doesn’t require time to adjust to a new league. As such, he has enough experience to fit in with any English club. After an eight-month absence, he returned and started banging goals instantly. Clearly, the affinity to find the back of the net is ingrained in him.

Andy Cole urges Ivan Toney to join Manchester United.

Strikers like Toney are always made for big clubs because they can flourish in any environment. He already has four goals in the league. But come the summer, there will be more competition for his signing.

The loss at Wembley showcased the need for a prolific striker and Todd Boehly will need to address that when the summer window opens. While United could offer competition, Chelsea should move heaven and earth to beat them to the Englishman.

And whichever club meets Brentford’s asking price can take him home. Chelsea will be excited to have a striker like Toney, whose stature can address their goalscoring needs and step up on big occasions.
