Dwight Yorke has suggested Manchester United commence the club under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s era by signing Chelsea target Victor Osimhen. United are currently suffering a similar fate as Chelsea in front of the goal despite signing Rasmus Hojlund for a record-breaking fee, as the Danish striker has struggled to remain potent in front of the goal.
This has forced United to look for Hojlund competition, and the club has been recommended a Chelsea target by a former player. The Blues have made Osimhen their primary signing next summer and are hoping to cash in some academy players to make a profit from his acquisition next summer.
Osimhen rose to prominence as a striker last summer when he led Napoli to Scudetto scoring 31 goals in 39 matches last season, but this campaign injuries have limited his game time, and the Nigerian has scored seven goals in 13 matches.
Plenty of speculation suggests that the Blues are prepared to go all out for Osimhen as they hope to address their prolonged goalscoring woes, and they will face more competition for his signing next summer. And Yorke has urged his former side to sign him, (h/t The Sun), and told Footy Accumulators:
“If I were in charge of Man United and had to sign three players, then I’d pick Victor Osimhen, Leroy Sane, and Son Heung-Min.I feel United are OK defensively, but they lack options in midfield. I wouldn’t say the club needs a clear out, but they need at least six new players to freshen up the whole team. Too many players have been there for too long.”
Our goal-scoring issue is more serious than United’s, though, as we are the only Premier League team to have missed the most big opportunities while also ranking third in terms of attacks.
A quality signing of a striker changes everything and given the chances we have missed, he will make every opportunity count and will instantly make us into a trophy-winning club. United, though, don’t have depth in the No. 9 role because Hojlund is the only out-and-out striker, and if he’s out injured, they won’t have any options.
It will be better for them to sign his backup instead of a striker who is more experienced and would demand more game time on the pitch. Meanwhile, for us, Osimhen is a priority, and his addition instantly rectifies our goal-scoring woes.
