Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea could make some last-minute signings in January window

The January transfer window is reaching its culmination, and there hasn’t been a single signing from Chelsea, who spent £1 billion under new owners across three transfer windows.

It has come as somewhat of a surprise that the club hasn’t been able to add any players, considering that it was most busy during the previous transfer window and twice surpassed the British transfer record.

Although there have been rumours and the club has been linked with a few players, there hasn’t been a concrete interest from the West Londoners, and it appears the club is unlikely to sign a player in the winter window.

Last summer, the club made some extravagant spending and bought some star players such as Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo. But Fabrizio Romano said the club might make some last-minute signings when he told GiveMeSport:

“Chelsea are always a club to look out for in general for the final days. It was a quiet window for them, not just in the final days of the market. But I still believe that Chelsea is closely monitoring some opportunities. But they could stay with the same squad if they believe he is not the right player. For example, Duran at Aston Villa was a player Chelsea considered internally, but they never made a bid.”

There are many instances when we look for more signing in transfer windows. In the last window, our first aim was to sell some fringe players and generate revenue, and we sold half our squad the previous summer, which helped us make a profit and aided us in signing our top targets.

But we also overspent last summer, which has seen us seem to be reaching the Financial Fair Play limit, and now we first need to make some profit before we sign any player once again.

It is unclear if the club will make signings at the last minute because they have linked with a few players. Chelsea are on the market for a short-term striker, but it doesn’t appear like the team is sure what kind of player it wants.
