Out-of-favour Chelsea defender’s persistent injury issues could end hopes of a January transfer

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah could miss out on January transfer due to injury issues

It must be frustrating being Trevoh Chalobah. The Chelsea defender has had a torrid last 12 months at his boyhood club. His impressive start to life at Stamford Bridge seems like a thing of the past.

The English defender is yet to feature for Mauricio Pochettino. The Chelsea manager is yet to take a good look at him, due to his incessant injury troubles. It does not seem like he features in the former Spurs coach’s long-term plans though.

Let’s be honest here, Chalobah is not someone who has ever been predicted to be a superstar at Stamford Bridge. He did prove to be a good utility player under Thomas Tuchel though, capable of deputising in midfield and defence.

It was expected that the 24-year-old would be fit by January. According to Football. London, his injury issues and his failure to recover from the same means that he is unlikely to get the exit he desires this month.

Chalobah came really close to leaving the club in the summer with Bayern Munich closing in on him but the move eventually fell through. The German giants must be thanking their stars right now considering the injury crisis that Chalobah is experiencing.

So, what if Chalobah recovers?

Does Mauricio Pochettino see Chalobah in his plans? The English defender could return before the end of the season. He could still turn his Chelsea career around but only if he is given a fair chance.

We must remember that Wesley Fofana is also likely to return at some point this season. Axel Disasi, Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile are all central defenders and Chalobah might struggle to find a place in defence.

If not in January, we fully expect the 24-year-old to leave Chelsea in the summer. Unless something drastically changes, this could be the end of Chalobah’s time in a Chelsea shirt. Regardless, that is a few months away.

Most importantly, we need the talented young centre-back to recover and stay fit. If he manages to do so, there will be a lot of suitors considering his obvious talent. Let’s wait and see how his future pans out.
