Demba Ba reveals he has made ‘fun’ of Steven Gerrard’s slip vs Chelsea a couple of times

Former Chelsea player Demba Ba says sometimes they joke about Steven Gerrard’s famous slip in 2-0 loss to Blues

Demba Ba reflects on his landmark goal against Liverpool, which ended the Reds’ aspirations of lifting the Premier League since 1989–1990. Since that day, he turned into a villain for Liverpool supporters,

The Reds, who last won the Premier League title in 1989–90, came close to ending their English top-flight title drought in 2013–14 when they came close to getting their hands on the championship under Brendan Rogers.

But any hopes of capturing the trophy were dashed in a 2-0 loss to Chelsea in the final match, one that saw plenty of drama. Two players will always be associated with preventing Liverpool from being champions.

It was a famous Steven Gerrard slip that caused the former Blues player to pounce on the chance to score a goal, and when asked if he still remembers the game, the Frenchman told FourFourTwo:

“Gerrard hadn’t won the league, and Liverpool hadn’t for many years. It was a really tough moment for those players. For me, frankly, it’s just another goal. There are iconic moments in football where you’re the good guy or the bad guy—that’s life. I don’t make fun of it. Well, maybe once or twice…!”

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

Many iconic players have never won the Premier League despite playing in the league for decades, and Gerrard is one of them. He had won every trophy with the Reds and would have gone down as one of the most famous captains of the club had he not made that poor mistake, which changed everything for the club and his career.

The players and spectators were inconsolable since they were so close to taking home the championship. But the former England player’s error changed everything for the team. Liverpool went on to win the league in 2019–20. However, Reds supporters will never get over that 2013–14 memory and may always have nightmares about it.
