Levi Colwill struggling to be in contention to face Chelsea vs Liverpool match after missing Monday training
Standard reveals Levi Colwill could miss the Chelsea midweek game with Liverpool after missing Monday’s training. The centre-back wasn’t in the lineup for the Blues’ 0-0 draw with Aston Villa after suffering tightness in his hamstring.
However, the Blues felt the academy player had a minor injury, but now it depends on Tuesday’s training, and Colwill will hope to join the group for Tuesday’s practice and travel with the squad to Anfield for their blockbuster match against the Reds.
Mauricio Pochettino expected the defender to return to training on Monday, but he was absent, which is now a new frustration for the manager, who is already dealing with an abundance of injured players.
However, Pochettino subsequently used Benoit Badiashile as left-back against Villians and he later replaced him with Ben Chilwell, which gave him an alternative in left-back position in Colwill’s absence.
Pochettino will be careful with Chilwell, who recently returned from a hamstring injury and will opt to give minutes carefully. With Badiashile now another option, he is likely to start against Liverpool.
If Colwill misses the Liverpool game, then he should be fit to play against Wolves on Sunday. The Blues have also been handed an injury boost after Christopher Nkunku was pictured in training and will hopefully make his cameo as a substitute against Liverpool.
Pochettino will be careful with his selection at left back, as Liverpool will probably deploy either Diego Jota or Darwin Nunez in the absence of Mohamed Salah.
Having played left-back in the past, Badiashile can do solid defending. The Argentine manager may then use Chilwell as a backup to balance Badiashile’s playing time. It will give the fullback area some new legs and creativity.
