Chelsea midfielder Pochettino is a big fan of is set to stay at the club

Andrey Santos to stay at Chelsea after dreadful loan spell at Nottingham Forest

Andrey Santos stands all set to continue his tenure at Stamford Bridge, with an opportunity to impress in the second half of the season. This development follows a rather uneventful loan spell at Nottingham Forest in the first half of the season for the 18-year-old Brazilian midfielder, who showed a lot of promise while playing for Vasco da Gama in Brazil.

According to the Evening Standard, Andrey Santos will now remain at Stamford Bridge with chances coming his way to impress in the second half of the season. Initially loaned out to Forest for the season, Santos faced a shortage of playing opportunities, with his only Premier League appearance this season lasting just seven minutes against Liverpool. Despite several clubs expressing interest in acquiring the services of the versatile midfielder, it became evident that the loan move wasn’t unfolding as expected, prompting Chelsea to reconsider his immediate future.

While the Blues were initially in no rush to decide on Santos’s fate, it appears that a resolution has been reached for him to remain part of the first-team setup at Chelsea for the remainder of the season. This decision aligns with the club’s intention to provide Santos with a chance to showcase his talents under the management of Mauricio Pochettino.

Andrey Santos can play as a central midfielder and a defensive midfielder.

The 18-year-old midfielder, who can operate in central and defensive positions, now has an opportunity to compete for a place in the Chelsea squad during the second half of the season. Despite his limited game time at Nottingham Forest, Santos impressed during Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States, earning positive remarks from Poch.

Santos at Stamford Bridge!

The decision to retain Santos suggests that Chelsea see potential in the young Brazilian and believes he could contribute to the squad’s depth. While it is highly doubtful that Santos might immediately pose a threat to the starting midfielders, including Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, and Conor Gallagher, his presence could increase competition for places in the first team.

Santos’s versatility to play in central and defensive midfield positions could provide Pochettino with additional options, especially during a congested fixture schedule. The Argentine manager, who previously expressed his admiration for Santos, will now have the opportunity to assess the youngster’s progress in competitive action.

Andrey Santos’ loan spell at Nottingham Forest was absolutely dreadful.

While Santos may not immediately challenge the established starting midfielders, his involvement in training sessions and potential cameo appearances could serve as valuable experience for his development.

The decision to keep Santos at Stamford Bridge suggests a belief in his long-term potential, and the club’s willingness to provide opportunities for young talents to grow within the Chelsea system. As the season progresses, Santos could use this chance to stake his claim for a more prominent role in the squad, demonstrating the qualities that initially caught the eye of the coaching staff during pre-season and before recruitment as well.
