Following another dominant display where they saw off Preston 4-0 in the FA Cup third round, Mauricio Pochettino wasn’t fully convinced with his side’s display and was seen in an awkward moment with Cole Palmer after the game.
The Blues were lethargic in the first half and couldn’t conjure anything, but the second half saw a changed Chelsea side, who put four goals in the Preston net.
A 58th-minute goal from Armando Broja broke the deadlock before Thiago Silva doubled their lead six minutes later. Three minutes later, Raheem Sterling’s free-kick saw the Blues go three goals ahead, and Enzo Fernandez wrapped up the match in the 85th minute with a fourth goal.
However, this time Palmer, who has been Chelsea’s active goalscorer, failed to get on the scoresheet but had an assist to his name, which disappointed the Argentine manager, (h/t Mirror) and when asked about his talks with the 21-year-old, he said:
“Very impressed. I think he arrived on the last day of the transfer window, and his performance after six months was incredible. Today he was a little bit disappointed because he didn’t score a big chance he had, and he’s young and still needs to improve in different areas.”
“He needs to understand many things, but he is improving a lot. He is a very good player for us, and he is doing fantastic, and I am so pleased.”
Because of the standards he has set for himself, Palmer is among our finest players. Fans and managers now demand him to at least score a goal every game, something he has been doing since joining our team. Palmer also always has assists to his name. He is among this season’s finest additions.
He has won over supporters from the beginning and is currently Pochettino’s most valuable player with game-changing proficiency. Palmer’s qualities always seem to find their way onto the scoresheet, but when a player performs this consistently, expectations keep rising. When a player goes a game without scoring or dishing out an assist, it becomes unusual.
