A View From The Bridge

“We played much better than Chelsea”- Roberto De Zerbi unhappy with Brighton’s 3-2 loss

Roberto de Zerbi felt Brighton & Hove Albion were better than Chelsea despite a 3-2 loss

Despite losing 3-2, Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto de Zerbi thought his team was superior to Chelsea, and we can agree with this because they controlled most of the match, but we were much better in front of goal and defended well.

However, after losing Conor Gallagher, we were made to work hard as Brighton gained a numeric superiority over us and plenty of chances to conclude the match with a win.

But thanks to an Enzo Fernandez brace and a goal from Levi Colwill in the early stages of the match, we stayed in the game as we maintained our ground and defended the lead despite conceding two goals.

There were many moments when Brighton had a chance to go ahead and equalise the game, but our defence were well prepared to counter their attack, and despite their loss, the Italian manager felt his side was much better, (BBC), and said:

“It’s hard because I think we played much better than Chelsea. We made three big mistakes—two set pieces—in the first half, and we conceded the third goal in an incredible way.”

Chelsea have made massive strides under boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Here, De Zerbi is correct. Brighton were superior and in control of the game, but they were unfortunate with their opportunities since our robust defence kept them from scoring. Gallagher’s red card had an even greater impact on us, forcing us to defend the scoreline and maintain our composure. These crucial games require greater discipline because they disrupt the flow of the game, and a team goes a man down.

We only make things difficult for ourselves in the matches, so occasionally we are our own foes. Nonetheless, we were fortunate not to let in further goals from Brighton following Joao Pedro’s goal in the 92nd minute to cut the gap. The players will feel renewed enthusiasm after this victory to take on Manchester United in our upcoming match.
