A View From The Bridge

“We need to assess” – Mauricio Pochettino talks about chances of Christopher Nkunku making his Chelsea debut

Mauricio Pochettino says he needs to asses Christopher Nkunku before deciding on his Chelsea debut

Mauricio Pochettino has updated on Christopher Nkunku’s injury and claims he needs to assess the player’s recovery before giving them the green light. But there are chances that Nkunku could make a short cameo off the bench.

Nkunku has returned to grass training and could be on the bench to face Brighton & Hove Albion. The forward suffered a knee injury during a pre-season tour to the USA and had to undergo surgery which saw him miss the first half of the season.

However, now the Blues have given Pochettino a key boost after the Frenchman was seen training on grass, and his return is drawing near, so Pochettino will now have a quality option to use.

Christopher Nkunku of Chelsea could make his debut against Brighton.

The forward presence will be big news for Chelsea, who will add much-needed experience to this young squad. But the Blues will be cautious with his recovery as they don’t want to rush his injury, but it is understood Nkunku could be available to face the Seagulls.

The Argentine manager was questioned by the reporter who revealed he was there and saw Nkunku training with the group and asked if the 25-year-old would be ready to face Brighton, (h/t Football.London), Pochettino said:

“We need to assess tomorrow and then decide. They are close, but we need tomorrow to take the decision.”

The Frenchman has a good possibility of coming off the bench, according to numerous reports previously. He will add tremendous ability to the team, Pochettino may have been waiting a long time to utilise him. However, it is unclear if the 51-year-old will select the attacker against Brighton. fFns will be aware that he can solve our goal-scoring issues in front of goal and that Pochettino may deploy him as a centre forward.

Nkunku is coming off a long-term injury and will need a few games to rediscover his fitness. Additionally, because it’s the Premier League, he can take an extended period to transition to the league, so it’s unclear if Pochettino will bring him in against Brighton.
