Chelsea shortlist 15-goal striker who was once on Brighton’s books

Viktor Gyokeres among the strikers Chelsea will pursue in the 2024 January transfer window

As per Express, Chelsea have selected the top five strikers including Viktor Gyokeres to be pursued in January after Mauricio Pochettino insisted on more additions to the squad to augment its quality.

Following a 2-0 defeat to Everton, the Chelsea boss called the loss a reality check after his side failed to score goals despite creating many chances.

Among them is a new face in Viktor Gyokeres, whom Chelsea have expressed interest in signing in the winter transfer window. The 25-year-old is enjoying a productive season with Primeira Liga side Sporting CP, having netted 15 league goals.

Before moving to the Portuguese side, the Swedish forward was plying his trade at EFL with Coventry City only last season, but a move to Portugal has changed the trajectory of his career as he is now under the radar of Chelsea.

Given his goal-scoring prowess this season, Sporting are aware of interest from European clubs, and the Portuguese side would hope to make a great profit from his exit. It revealed that Sporting has inserted a £87 million release clause, and now it remains to be seen if Chelsea will be willing to activate it in January.

The Blues’ other targets are Osimhen and Ivan Toney, who might be more expensive. Though a winter transfer for the Nigerian looks dubious, Toney could be open to a move.

We have a lot of innovative players who can create chances out of nothing, but we need discipline in front of goal, which is something that our present centre-forwards, Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson, have not been able to demonstrate. Therefore, we need an aggressive striker who can guarantee us goals.

Gyokeres is now in high demand due to his goal-scoring, but he can expect a completely different experience going here. The Portuguese league is different from the Premier League. As a result, it will be interesting to watch if the 25-year-old can handle the physicality of Premier League defenders because at Chelsea he will have excellent support from other players to score goals.
