Suspension rules Chelsea star Conor Gallagher out of the crunch clash against Manchester United
Chelsea will be without key player, Conor Gallagher when they make a trip to Manchester United. The midfielder was sent off in a 3-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.
Gallagher was dismissed for the first half of the game after his silly tackle on midfielder Billy Gilmour and stopping a counter-attack. The 23-year-old was already booked when he fouled Facundo Buonanotte.
He will be suspended for a game and won’t travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Wednesday night. Given how important the England international has been to Mauricio Pochettino, it will be a big loss for the Blues.
The 23-year-old has been ever-present for the Blues; he has been in the lineup for almost every game since the start of the season and has also captained the West Londoners in a few matches.
Chelsea were open to selling the midfielder this summer, but the player was hesitant to leave despite interest from London based rivals, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur. In some ways, it has been blessing in disguise as Gallagher has impressed in Pochettino’s opening few months as Blues boss.
Since then, he has been the backbone of Chelsea’s midfielders and has played more minutes than everyone except Thiago Silva and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. He is their most creative player, with four assists. The Blues are set to be without their key star, and the Argentine manager will have a headache choosing Gallagher’s replacement.
Gallagher must get better at timing his tackles since these reckless fouls will result in a red card. Because he has grown increasingly indispensable to us this season, it is not acceptable that we will be without him for the next game. Pochettino’s selection of his lineup for the United match may give him a new headache.

Given that Lesley Ugochukwu and the other midfield players are injured, we should anticipate man-changes and the possibility of Cole Palmer replacing Gallagher in the midfield versus United. Palmer switching to a midfield position might allow Raheem Sterling to play from the right and Mykhyalo Mudryk to play from the left.
