Chelsea set to repeat 2023 mass clear out to afford new signing after Mauricio Pochettino demand

According to the Guardian, Chelsea could once again embark on another summer squad clearout to make room for more signings after Mauricio Pochettino revealed the club would look for additional recruitment in January.

Under the 51-year-old, the Blues have only overseen five wins in 16 Premier League matches, and now he feels the club still needs to reinforce some areas and will back into the transfer market after they lost 2-0 against Everton on Sunday.

Under the new regime, the club has spent £1bn, but the results haven’t been satisfactory as Chelsea languish in 12th place in the Premier League. Last season, the West Londoners brought in 14 players before clearing out 15 first-team players who left permanently or on loan.

Mauricio Pochettino says Chelsea lacks aggressiveness in matches.

One of the key issues Chelsea are enduring is scoring goals, and they are looking to bring in a seasoned striker next season and are linked with Brentford Ivan Toney and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. Now it appears more signings are set to be made, but before that, Chelsea would want to sell several fringe players as they want to avoid bloating their squad which they did under Graham Potter.

Another thing the club will have to keep in mind is their financial situation, as they have already spent enough. If they break the Premier League salary cap, then they might breach their rules, which could lead to plenty of sanctions from the league.

We made a great profit after selling 15 first-team players and saw the club raise £212million. But this time around most of them are recent signings and only Malang Sarr and Trevoch Chalobah are likely to be sold in January or next summer.

Chelsea boss Todd Boehly has spent £ 1bn in the last two transfer window.

It’s time the club built a squad around Pochettino’s decisions because it seems to be backfiring us given the plenty of young players we have bought in, and now it remains to be seen who the club will sell to raise funds. Chelsea’s leadership needs to be more structured since simply bringing in young players isn’t going to work, but if we are looking for a long-term plan, then fans will have to have patience.

But there is no reason to be despondent because we are performing well. Our victories over Manchester City and Arsenal were evidence of our growth, and this should give the impression that we are moving in the right direction. You don’t need to lose all your hope just because we’ve lost two straight games.
