Pundit ‘amazed’ by Mauricio Pochettino publicly asking Chelsea for new players despite huge spending under Todd Boehly

Chris Sutton admits being amazed by Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea transfer requests

Football pundit Chris Sutton is just as surprised as all of us regarding Mauricio Pochettino‘s request to bring in two new players. As quoted by BBC, Sutton said,

“Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino came out and said he wanted some new players after they lost to Everton last week – which is pretty amazing when you consider Chelsea’s spending spree last summer – and it does not appear things are going to settle down at Stamford Bridge anytime soon.”

His comments don’t seem out of the world if we consider Chelsea’s spending over the last few seasons. The Blues have spent close to 1000 million Euros in the last 15 months. However, the club is far from justifying the spending with their performances on the pitch.

It was expected of Mauricio Pochettino to settle with the current squad but the Argentine has different plans. Much to the surprise of many, including Chris Sutton, the Chelsea boss has requested the management to bring in two new players.

According to Spanish media outlet Fichajes, Fulham’s Joao Palhinha and Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic are on the radar for him. It is quite evident that the West London manager is not satisfied with Moises Caceido or Romeo Lavia.

Caceido hasn’t justified his price tag and has put on a sub-par performance so far this season. This has urged the Blues gaffer to rope in another defensive midfielder. So is he looking for options to support Raheem Sterling up front?

Are Pochettino’s requests justified?

To elaborate on what was discussed above, Moises Caceido arrived at Stamford Bridge for €116.00m. However, the Ecuador international hasn’t put forth a noteworthy performance despite featuring in 17 games across all competitions.

Palhinha has been a phenomenal figure for Fulham this season. The defensive midfielder has two goals and an assist to his name from 13 games. On the other hand, the team lacks some serious firepower in the final third. The responsibility is shared between Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Jackson and Cole Parmer.

Pochettino is in dire need of an X-factor and he believes it to be Dusan Vlahovic. The Juventus forward has six goals (5 goals and one assist) involvements from 15 games for The Old Lady. Should Chelsea manage to secure the duo, the club can finally put an end to their shopping spree.
