Mauricio Pochettino says Chelsea could take a season to finish in top four
Mauricio Pochettino has pessimistic hopes of Chelsea finishing in the top four, as they currently languish in 11th place in the Premier League table. The Argentine manager doesn’t know how long it will take for the Blues to become a top-four contender and qualify for the Champions League.
He feels it’s a long process and will take time to transpire. With the set of young players the 51-year-old is managing, it will certainly be more than a campaign.
They are presently going through a transition period, and it will be interesting to watch how quickly the former Southampton manager can turn this young team into a competitive team.
Though there is still work to be done, Chelsea have improved significantly under Pochettino and have begun to play entertaining football, according to the results thus far.
If Chelsea doesn’t upgrade under the Argentine boss, they may miss out on the top four once more. They are currently experiencing a lumpy season. The 51-year-old now offers his thoughts on Chelsea finishing in the top four; Fabrizio Romano cited him on this.
“We are building something that’ll pay off. We knew when we accepted it’d be tough. We’re going to challenge the top four to be back at UCL. Maybe not now, but in the future. Who knows when? Maybe a year or six months. We will see.”
Pochettino believes that this team is missing experience and that a manager’s comments reveal his initial impressions of the team. it’s a long way road and remaining patience is the only option because there will be more defeats than wins.
A top-four finish is improbable; instead, we should concentrate on these players’ development and instil a winning mindset in them. We need to improve our mentality since we don’t do satisfactorily in certain games. However, we are a long way from winning games on a regular basis, and we cannot expect such young players to perform flawlessly every time; mistakes will serve as learning experiences for them and will undoubtedly help them grow over time.
