Mykhaylo Mudryk reveals what Pochettino told Chelsea players about EFL Cup plans before Newcastle win

Mykhaylo Mudryk explains Mauricio Pochettino’s ‘big picture’ for the team in EFL Cup

Mykhaylo Mudryk reveals the Chelsea boss briefed the team about winning the title even before the game took place. Mudryk pulled the game level for the Blues in the 92nd minute to avoid an eventual loss. The injury-time goal pushed the game to penalties, where Chelsea defeated the Magpies 4-2.

As reported by BBC Sports, the gaffer briefed them on the bigger picture. The Ukrainian star says,

Our gaffer said we’re going to try to win this title before this game. After this game, our plans haven’t changed. We’re looking forward. We will try to win the title.

Mykhaylo Mudryk further revealed how he believes the team is in the right direction, The 22-year-old also emphasised the importance of teamwork and mutual trust. Chelsea has now entered the final four of the tournament.

The other spots are occupied by Middlesbrough and Fulham. The winner between Liverpool and West Ham will occupy the final berth in the semi-finals.

EFL Trophy can be Chelsea’s shot at redemption

Mauricio Pochettino means business about the EFL Cup. This comes especially after his side’s slump in the Premier League this season. The Blues boss has to give something to his fans to cheer for. The win against Newcastle United wasn’t quite a convincing one.

They conceded quite early into the game and almost saw the exit if not for Mykhaylo Mudryk’s late goal. Pochettino now has more players at his discretion. Cristopher Nkunku is back and so will Romero Lavia. His worries about an incomplete squad and having to rely on players with less experience are almost out of the window.

To bolster things further, the West London manager has requested a handful of players for the January window. Chelsea’s requirement lies in the midfield and upfront in a ‘poacher’ role.

Chelsea should prioritise EFL over EPL to salvage their situation

The entire Chelsea team realises that they cannot settle for the season with a mediocre Premier League performance. Bringing the EFL trophy home will bring much-needed positivity to the club.

To see things more realistically, avoiding further slip-ups will be more than good news for the team. Mauricio Pochettino and Co. should divert their energy to EFL while maintaining the right balance in the PL.
