Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he wants to explore the January market and bring in more quality players after his side suffered a 2-0 defeat to Everton.
Chelsea was unable to find a solution as Abdoulaye Doucoure and Lewis Dobbin both scored a goal in the 54th and 92nd minutes to seal the victory in the second half. This was their seventh league loss after a midweek 2-1 defeat to Manchester United and now the pressure growing on Pochettino to turn the tables around.
Managing a young squad is no easy task because you have to nurture each player, which takes plenty of seasons to build something, and this is what is happening with Chelsea.
Pochettino is aware that the team needs to be balanced with a few more seasoned players. Following yet another setback, the Argentine manager exposed the team’s lack of expertise once more, (h/t Daily Star), and revealed to the BBC that Chelsea may try to add some more experienced players to round out the roster.
“We conceded first, even though we were playing really well. Now we need to see and analyse the reality. We need to talk and try to improve these areas in the next transfer market if we believe we need to improve them.”
Pochettino’s involvement in the transfer market will be crucial this time around since he will be able to identify the areas that still require upgrading. We just cannot sign young players and hope 51-year-olds eke out results instantly.
If you’re hoping for quick fixes, get ready for a drawn-out process. It will take time for this young and inexperienced team to develop into a competitive team. Pochettino is not at fault in this situation because his team is still extremely young, and losses of this kind are inevitable in a league this competitive with such a youthful roster.
The 51-year-old is the one who is managing and will assemble this team, so it will be ideal if the Chelsea board gives him a voice during the transfer window. Although the team won’t benefit from our owners acquiring young players, these losses will increase the pressure on them from the supporters alone.
