Pundit explains ‘dressing room’ reason why Chelsea should not sign Victor Osimhen

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink warns Chelsea against bringing in a new striker in January

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has warned Chelsea that they might once again create chaos in the dressing room if they target Napoli star Victor Osimhen and Brentford’s striker, Ivan Toney.

Chelsea are linked with Toney and Osimhen as they search for an ideal striker to address their goalscoring plummet. Last night’s defeat to Manchester United indicated how desperately the Blues need a proven centre-forward.

Nicolas Jackson leads the Blues in scoring right now with six goals in 14 Premier League games, but his sporadic performance has raised questions. The youngster showed his lack of composure last night when he squandered a gilt edged chance to level things up after being put in by Raheem Sterling.

The Blues want to sign a centre-forward capable of producing goals in every game, but currently, they have Jackson, Armando Broja, and Christoper Nkunku. While Jackson is still raw and lacks experience, the latter two have struggled with injuries, limiting their impact on the field.

Hasselbaink says given the option Chelsea has for the No. 9 role, they will have to think carefully before going for an out-and-out striker in the January or winter transfer window. He further said on Amazon Prime (h/t Metro):

‘Chelsea are not scared of the transfer fee. But if you go back into the window and bring in another striker, I don’t think this is the right thing to do for the dressing room; you are going to get an overcrowded dressing room again.

‘You have three strikers already, or someone has to go if you bring in an Osimhen or Toney. This market in January is the hardest to do business in.’

The former Chelsea striker makes a valid argument, and if Chelsea wants to add a centre-forward, they must proceed with considerable diligence when making transfers. Leave Nkunku; he is capable of playing on the wings as well, so there is no problem. In the event that Chelsea brings either Osimhen or Toney, Broja and Jackson will then have to contend for second place.

Making a decision about Broja and Jackon will be difficult; the Blues might try to sign either player on a loan, but anything can happen, and Chelsea needs to avoid overloading their team once more. But then, we cannot turn a blind eye to the lack of a reliable goal scorer upfront. If sacrificing Broja and Jackson is what is needed to bring in Toney and Osimhen, consider us on board for the journey.
