Corinthians president Augusto Melo says he held private talks with Chelsea owner Todd Boehlt over Gabriel Moscardo transfer
Corinthians’ incoming president, Augusto Melo, says he had private talks with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly regarding the signing of Gabriel Moscardo.
The Blues are keen to sign Moscardo and even made an initial offer for the midfielder of around £26 million, which was subsequently rejected by the club’s previous president.
Now that there has been a change in the presidency of the club, their new president stands firm with the club’s decision to want more for Moscardo’s exit.
Along with the Blues, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in signing him. The Ligue 1 side’s sporting director, Lucas Compas, has been scouting the midfielder.
Meanwhile, Chelsea remain in the race but have yet to make a second offer for the midfielder. Moscardo has been a revelation this season after earning promotion to the first team and making 18 appearances in the league.
Now that the club’s new president held talks with the Blues’ owner and told him the asking price he would demand from the clubs, (h/t Express) he told Foot Mercato:
“I’m not a salesman. Our player, trained at home, will be our third best-seller, at least. He’s an 18-year-old boy; he’s in transition; he’s gaining weight now. It will ripen further so that we can sell it for three or four times more than it is worth.
We have to sell well on the market again. I made it clear, I joked with him (Todd Boehly), and I told him I wouldn’t sell. I will never sell for what they offer. It is more than 40 million euros at least.”
It’s undoubtedly difficult to sign such gifted players when their owners think they will get maximum money from their departure. Now that other clubs are involved, they have even more motivation to make the most money possible. Given the attention Moscardo is currently receiving, PSG may do whatever it takes to sign him. Chelsea will now have to make a significant decision.

Our goal of acquiring young talent is still our top priority. Moscardo is a highly regarded player that the Blues wouldn’t want to pass up. It’s unclear at this point whether the Blues will overpay for Moscardo, given that the new boss of the Brazilian club wants €40 million.
