Fabrizio Romano shares Reece James injury timeline after yet another setback

Darren Bent believes Reece James can make it to the 2024 Euro squad for England if he is fit.

Chelsea captain Reece James set to be out for 2/3 months after another hamstring injury

Fabrizio Romano has revealed Chelsea captain Reece James has once again sustained a hamstring injury following a 2-0 defeat to Everton last Sunday.

The fullback underwent scans on Tuesday, which confirmed it’s a hamstring injury. Now the 24-year-old will start his rehabilitation programme at Cobham. The youngster is expected to be out until February or March, based on the recovery programme.

This is the second time James has suffered a hamstring injury this season. The 24-year-old picked up the same injury in the first Premier League match against Liverpool and was out for two months.

It is also understood that the right-back will look for a specialist to work on his hamstring injury. This is a big loss for Chelsea, as they have been dealing with frequent injuries to their key players this season.

James has only featured in eight Premier League games this season, and now another large spell-out will affect the player mentally. James has been suffering from constant injuries since last season when he picked up a knee injury and was out for 2/3 months.

Chelsea only have Malo Gusto, who is currently recovering from a shoulder injury, while Marc Cucurella twisted his ankle against Everton, and Ben Chilwell has been out since the start of the season, which means Chelsea’s all the fullback options are out with injuries.

Now the Argentine will either have to use Axel Disasi as a right-back or go back to his three defenders in the back formation that he deployed at the start of the season.

James has run a lot as a fullback and now seems to be overexerting himself, which could be the cause of his problems. To prevent injuries, Pochettino needs to figure out a way to have him run less and perhaps play him as an inverted fullback. Unfortunately, he is experiencing such injuries at such a young age and now it will keep him on the sidelines for two or three months.
