Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea and Conor Gallagher will sit for his contract renewal talks
Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea will hold talks with Conor Gallagher next month over the extension of his contract. The Englishman was on the verge of leaving Chelsea last summer but remained at the club and has turned himself into an indispensable part of the Mauricio Pochettino plan.
West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur were keen on signing the midfielder in the summer, but the England international was reluctant to leave and prove his credentials. Thankfully for us, the player opted to stay put.
Since then, the midfielder has captained the Blues in many games and has appeared in most matches, tallying four assists so far. His absence against Manchester United was felt last night as the Blues came out second best in the battle to control the midfield.
Gallagher’s redemption has been commendable, and his presence as a midfielder gives Chelsea plenty of fortitude. The 23-year-old deal is set to expire in 2025, and he is open to renewing it.
Chelsea shouldn’t consider second thoughts because Gallagher deserves his contract to be extended, and now Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the Blues will open talks with the midfielder Exclusively for his Daily Briefing:
“They will discuss it in the next few months. For sure, there will be talks, but at the moment, it’s still time to wait for concrete steps. Chelsea are very happy with Gallagher’s performances, but it will take some time to discuss.”
Hopefully, there will be a cordial discussion about his contract negotiations. Gallagher has established himself as the foundation of our midfield, so we should grant his request for a pay raise. He’s come a long way from the previous season. Had he not demonstrated significant improvement in his performance, he would not be starting every game.
Gallagher, however, is someone who gets the pulse of the club and that always makes him go that extra mile for our cause.

His numbers also speak for themselves; this season, he has the most assists of any Chelsea player, which highlights how crucial he is to us. It was evident from last night’s loss to Manchester United that we missed Gallagher, whose presence gave the midfield a new dynamic. Since he has battled to regain his position here, hopefully, Chelsea will extend his contract.
