A View From The Bridge

Chelsea wanted 45-year-old Dutchman before going with Mauricio Pochettino as new manager

Chelsea could once again hold talks with Arne Slot if they decide to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino

Chelsea had other options in mind before they eventually went with Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager for the current season. It is also understood that if the Blues ever decide to part ways with Pochettino, Boehly might again consider Arne Slot as a potential candidate.

According to AD, Blues owner Todd Boehly held talks with Arne Slot in a private jet but couldn’t convince the Dutch manager to take over the Blues as their new manager, and Slot decided to remain at Feyenoord.

The Dutch club, led by Slot, currently sit second in the Eredivisie and won the league the previous year. Slot disrupted the Ajax dominance in the Dutch division and made Feyenoord a formidable team.

The Blues held discussions with plenty of managers before deciding on the Argentine manager, under whom the club seems to be going in the right direction.

Chelsea are presently in 10th place in the Premier League, but the 51-year-old has transformed both the performance and numerous elements of the team.

The 3-2 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion indicated that the team is currently moving in the appropriate guidance, but the pressure will still be on the Argentine to produce results.

Slot’s appointment could have been risky for us because he has only managed two clubs in his career—Alkmaar Zaanstreek and Feyenoord—and he lacks Premier League managerial experience. However, he has begun establishing himself and has improved the Dutch team’s prospects; they are currently second in the league and were the champions the previous season.

Chelsea chose to appoint Pochettino because of his extensive managerial experience, having coached young and well-known players. Chelsea has players, and the 51-year-old was the appropriate pick for those undeveloped young players that required refinement. Although we are doing terrific right now and getting better every day, there will inevitably be obstacles because this is a long-term effort.
