Chelsea set to use Roman Abramovich’s strategy in transfer windows

Chelsea will enter the January transfer window and will hope to offload other fringe players to raise funds, as per David Ornstein from Athletic.

The club is set to use the old transfer strategy they mainly utilized during the Roman Abramovich era when they loaned sets to players to make room for other signings.

The Russian billionaire club made a plethora of young signings, with the majority of them sent out on loan. This saw the club accused of abusing the loan system.

During that time, the Blues sent 41 players on loan to overseas clubs who had negligible chances of playing for the first team, and now the same could be said under Todd Boehly, who himself revamped the idea.

The Blues have been signing young players since the arrival of Boehly as their new owner, and the majority of them have been sent out on loan.

Meanwhile, those who are not in Mauricio Pochettino’s plan will be sold eventually. Meanwhile, Chelsea are open to selling Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr in the January window.

However, the club still has a few players who might be loaned to see them get more game time. Noni Madueke, who has struggled to get enough minutes on the pitch, might be loaned.

Chelsea must refrain from hoarding young players once more since doing so will stunt their development if we are unable to provide them with playing time with the starting squad it is evident that Madueke has played very little this season.

The forward was signed for the previous campaign with such hype and saw some game action, putting on a strong display. This season he has barely played and if this continues then a loan move makes sense.

Chalobah and Sarr don’t seem to be in his plans and might be sold in the upcoming window. We also have other young talents loaned out to different clubs and will be waiting for their chance to get called and represent the Chelsea senior team.

It’s a terrific idea to invest in highly-regarded young players. We have done so in the past and still doing it. But this time we need to limit signing teenagers and also prioritise the first team which seems to need some reinforcement in the forward and defence areas.
