Chelsea target’s PL ‘dream’ could have to wait as he reaches agreement for new contract at Serie A club

Chelsea pursuit of Victor Osimhen suffer a big blow as he close to extending his Napoli deal

As per Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have now been handed a new price tag in their pursuit of Victor Osimhen, as Napoli are now close to reaching an agreement with the Nigerian striker to extend his deal.

Osimhen Napoli’s deal expires in 2025 and is set to be renewed for another year, which will be valid until 2026 with a new release clause of around €130 million.

Besides Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United have also sounded out their interest, and given the new price tag of Osimhen, it remains to be seen if either of the clubs is willing to trigger it.

Chelsea could do it because they have not been shy about spending big when it comes to their top targets, and we have seen in the past that they invested big in Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

Osimhen has also made it clear that he dreams of playing in the Premier League. In his recent press conference, speaking to BBC Match of the Day, he said:

“A lot of people worldwide consider the Premier League to be the best and strongest league. Of course, I’m working so hard to make sure I achieve my dream of playing, of course, in the Premier League some day.”

Chelsea have a big decision to make if they want to activate the clause Napoli added to his contract. Osimhen’s recent interview indicates that he would undoubtedly aim to play in the Premier League by the upcoming season, so it makes sense for the Serie A club to make a healthy profit. However, the crucial question is: who will be willing to pay that much for him? Chelsea can afford to pay that amount, but they will need to make some sales first as they have already made significant summer expenditures.

Though for Osimhen such a price tag makes sense, we cannot always invest big because we have to abide by the Financial Fair Play law. If we do, the same people will have high expectations that Chelsea will always spend massively, which we need to avoid.
