Kieran Trippier made big mistake and also squandered penalty in defeat to Chelsea
Chelsea star Mykhaylo Mudryk sent a touching message to Kieran Trippier, who made a costly mistake that led to the Blues’ equaliser in the 92nd minute.
The right-back didn’t start the game and was introduced in the 46th minute of the game, but he couldn’t imagine what was coming during the injury time. Newcastle took the early lead in the 16th minute after a massive mistake from Benoit Badiashile.
Up until the injury time, the Magpies were ahead. Trippier attempted to control the ball with his chest, but it fell slightly ahead, allowing Mudryk to latch on it and put it in the right corner.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw and went straight to penalty shootouts, and the England international night turned into a nightmare when he missed the Tyneside second penalty as the Blues prevailed 4-2 on spot kicks and secured their semi-final spot.
Taking to his Instagram, Chelsea’s star sent a heartfelt message to the right and said:
“Kieran, I just want to say to you: stay strong. Sometimes s**t happens, but I think you are a strong footballer, no matter what.”.
Mykhaylo Mudryk to the rescue
It was a bad day at the office for the England international, but it helped us secure a place in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup in Mauricio Pochettino’s first stint as Chelsea’s manager. But we were also equally bad when we conceded our first goal, where Benoit Badiashile failed to clear the ball and Callum Wilson punished him and gave the Magpies the lead in just the 16th minute.
Meanwhile, Mudryk had a great night as he stepped up on this big occasion and gave Chelsea a reason why they spent big on him after scoring an equalizer and later converting a spot kick during the penalty shootouts.
