A View From The Bridge

Chelsea decide not to formalise interest in teenage PSG target

Chelsea have decided not to pursue Brazilian sensation Gabriel Moscardo

According to Fichajes.net, in a surprising incident, Chelsea have now withdrawn from the race to sign Gabriel Moscardo, but they remain interested in keeping tabs on him.

However, PSG seem to be advancing in their pursuit of Moscardo, as Lucas Campos has been watching the midfielder play for Brazilian club Corinthians.

Barcelona were also keen on signing the Brazilian but never held talks with Corinthians in the first place, and it appears now that PSG have been given a free path to sign the midfielder.

Chelsea pulled out from race to sign Gabriel Moscardo.

Earlier, the Blues were heavily keen on signing the 18-year-old and also made a first bid of around €20 million ($22 million), which was rejected by the club as they wanted €30 million.

Now it’s unlikely that the Blues are going to make another approach given that PSG are advancing to sign the midfielder and Chelsea would avoid a bidding war with the French club.

On top of the signing, it doesn’t make sense because we already have four defensive midfielders, such as Romeo Lavia, Moises Caicedo, Andrey Santos, and Lesley Ugochukwu.

The Blues should prioritise developing them instead of adding young players. But given the interest Moscardo has attracted, it says how good he is, and his performance speaks volumes because there are only a few defensive midfielders who can function as single pivots.

The 18-year-old has made quick progress and was promoted to the senior team, where he has appeared in 18 matches for them. His talent is undeniable, and his playing style is akin to Sergio Busquets and N’Golo Kante.

But right now, we already have plenty of midfielders who have occupied his space and have the potential to become future stars at the club. PSG remains in the driver’s seat, but he should decide on whether he wants to join the Ligue 1 club because, for money, it’s a good club, but when it comes to competing in European competitions, they always seem to suffer.
