Chelsea and PSG among clubs interested in signing AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan
According to Footmercato, Chelsea are interested in signing AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan but face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
The French goalkeeper is in talks with the Serie A club to extend his deal but is yet to reach a breakthrough, which could give other clubs impetus to swoop in.
Maignan has also become France’s No. 1 goalkeeper after the retirement of Hugo Lloris last year. The 28-year-old’s stock has risen since then. He joined Milan in 2021, quickly established himself as a crucial part of the club, and led his side to the Scudetto in his first season.
The custodian was awarded Man of the Match for his performance last game against Fiorentina where he provided an assist. Bayern are desperately looking for a shot-stopper, given that Manuel Neuer is currently 37 and is reaching retirement age.
Chelsea don’t seem to have any problem between the sticks, as Robert Sanchez has done a decent job, while United could make a move for Maignan knowing Andre Onana could travel with Cameroon for the AFCON next year.
The Blues last summer also considered signing Maignan, but they went with Sanchez instead. They may revisit signing Maignan now that he’s made a name for himself.
We can go for Maignan if we want, but he is now one of their most important goalkeepers, and Milan could slap an expensive price tag. Presently, we are not having any trouble between the sticks because Sanchez has done great, and it isn’t even dire. If he were poor, then we could have thought of signing a goalkeeper, but it doesn’t look necessary for us.

United and Bayern have better reasons to sign him, given that Onana could participate in the AFCON while Neuer is in the twilight of his career.
